TOEFL Reading Inference Questions

No agregues mundo externo

Elimina extremos

Opciones con always, only, never, prove o completely suelen pasarse del texto.

Cómo resolver Inference Questions

1Lee la pregunta y detecta si pide inferir, imply, suggest o can be concluded.

Community microgrids and energy resilience

Reading passage

In recent years, several towns have invested in community microgrids, small energy networks that can operate either with the main electrical grid or independently from it. These systems often combine solar panels, battery storage and software that decides when to draw power from different sources. Supporters argue that microgrids can make communities more resilient during storms or heat waves. If a regional power line fails, a hospital, school or emergency shelter connected to a microgrid may continue operating for several hours. This does not mean that a microgrid can power every building indefinitely, but it can protect critical services while repairs are made. The economic case is more complex. Installing batteries and control systems requires significant upfront investment, and smaller towns may need grants or partnerships to afford the project. However, some communities reduce long-term costs by using stored solar energy when electricity prices are high. Others value the system mainly for reliability, even if financial savings are modest. Energy planners emphasize that microgrids are not a universal solution. Their success depends on local weather, building needs, technical maintenance and public support. A poorly maintained microgrid can create a false sense of security, while a carefully managed one can become a practical layer in a broader energy strategy.
Question 1inference from detail

What can be inferred about community microgrids from paragraph 1?

Question 2purpose inference

What does paragraph 2 imply about the purpose of microgrids during emergencies?

Question 3financial inference

What can be inferred from the discussion of smaller towns in paragraph 3?

Question 4rhetorical inference

Why does the author mention communities that value reliability even with modest savings?

Question 5phrase inference

What can be inferred about a poorly maintained microgrid?

Question 6author attitude

Which statement best reflects the author’s overall view of microgrids?

Preguntas frecuentes

TOEFL prefiere inferencias moderadas y sustentadas.
