Academic Discussion · Set 11

Fixed WeLearn practice with the published time limit for this task family. Your response stays in this browser.

Your professor is teaching a class on media. Write a post responding to the professor's question. Contribute your own opinion and reasons, and add to the discussion.

Professor Silva: Some people think social media has mostly a positive effect on society, while others think it is mostly harmful. What is your view, and why?

Student (Nadia): I think it's mostly positive. Social media helps people stay connected, share information quickly, and organize for good causes. For example, during a recent natural disaster, social media was one of the fastest ways for volunteers to organize donations and support.

Student (Ben): I disagree. It spreads misinformation, harms mental health, and often replaces real face-to-face relationships. For example, I've seen false health information spread quickly online, and some people believed it simply because many others had shared it.

Write a response of at least 100 words. State your position clearly, give reasons and an example, and refer to a classmate's point where relevant.

The timer starts when you press the button. Submitting or reaching 00:00 closes the response; reloading does not reset the clock.
