Academic Discussion · Set 18

Fixed WeLearn practice with the published time limit for this task family. Your response stays in this browser.

Your professor is teaching a class on education. Write a post responding to the professor's question. Contribute your own opinion and reasons, and add to the discussion.

Professor Tanaka: Some people believe that students learn best when they study a wide range of subjects, while others believe they should specialize early in one area. Which approach do you think is better, and why?

Student (Marco): I think a broad education is better. It helps students discover their interests and become well-rounded thinkers who can connect ideas across fields. For example, I only discovered my interest in economics after taking an elective class that had nothing to do with my intended major.

Student (Fatima): I disagree. Specializing early lets students go deeper and become truly skilled in one area, which employers often value. For example, a friend who focused entirely on engineering from an early age was able to start advanced research long before classmates with broader schedules.

Write a response of at least 100 words. State your position clearly, give reasons and an example, and refer to a classmate's point where relevant.

The timer starts when you press the button. Submitting or reaching 00:00 closes the response; reloading does not reset the clock.
