Professor Novak: Some people believe that learning a second language should be required for all university students, while others think it should be optional. What is your view, and why?

Student (Yuki): I think it should be required. Knowing another language broadens your thinking, improves job prospects, and helps you understand other cultures. For example, learning Spanish completely changed how I understood a documentary about Latin America that I had watched years earlier in translation.

Student (Sam): I disagree. Students already have heavy workloads, and not everyone needs a second language for their career. It should be a personal choice. For example, a friend studying computer science barely has time for his major classes, let alone an additional language requirement.
