IELTS Reading Short-answer Questions

Formato oficial vs estrategia WeLearn

Night markets and local economies

Reading passage

Night markets and local economies

Night markets are common in many cities where daytime heat, long working hours or crowded streets make evening trade more attractive. They often begin as informal gatherings of food sellers, but successful markets can grow into organized spaces with lighting, waste collection and safety rules. City officials sometimes support them because they bring activity to streets that would otherwise become quiet after offices close. For small vendors, the main advantage is a lower entry cost. A stall at a night market usually requires less rent than a permanent shop, and sellers can test new products before investing in larger premises. This flexibility is especially important for families who prepare food at home during the day and sell it in the evening. Night markets can also strengthen local identity. Visitors often come for dishes, crafts or performances linked to a particular district. When markets are managed carefully, they can give older residents a place to share traditional recipes and younger entrepreneurs a place to experiment with modern versions of familiar products. However, popularity creates pressure. Noise can disturb nearby residents, and waste may increase if bins are not emptied frequently. Transport is another concern: when many visitors arrive by private car, surrounding streets can become congested. Some cities respond by placing markets near public transport stops or limiting vehicle access on market nights. The long-term success of a night market depends on balancing commercial energy with community needs. Clear rules about closing times, cleaning responsibilities and stall locations can prevent conflict. Without that balance, a market that once attracted visitors may lose local support.

Preguntas frecuentes

¿Qué son Short-answer Questions en IELTS Reading?

Son preguntas abiertas donde debes responder con palabras del pasaje, normalmente respetando un limite como NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS o NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS.
