¿Cuándo y cómo se usa?
Los cuantificadores dicen "cuánto" o "cuántos" hay. En inglés no puedes usar cualquiera con cualquier sustantivo: la elección depende de si el sustantivo es contable o incontable (por eso este tema va después del anterior). Elegir bien entre much y many, o entre a few y a little, es una marca clara de nivel.
Para cantidades grandes: "many" va con contables plurales (many books, many people) y "much" con incontables (much money, much time). "A lot of" (o "lots of") sirve para ambos y es la opción más segura en afirmativas: a lot of books, a lot of money.
Para cantidades pequeñas: "a few" va con contables (a few friends = unos pocos amigos) y "a little" con incontables (a little milk = un poco de leche). Y para preguntar: "how many?" con contables, "how much?" con incontables.
much / many / a lot of (cantidades grandes)
"many" + contable plural: "many students", "many cars". "much" + incontable: "much water", "much information". Un detalle de uso real: much y many se prefieren en negativas y preguntas ("I don't have much time", "How many books?"), mientras que en afirmativas suena más natural "a lot of".
"a lot of" / "lots of" funcionan con los dos tipos y son la apuesta segura, sobre todo en afirmativas: "I have a lot of friends", "There's a lot of noise".
a few / a little (cantidades pequeñas)
"a few" + contable plural = "unos pocos" (positivo, suficiente): "I have a few friends here". "a little" + incontable = "un poco" (positivo): "I have a little money, enough for coffee".
Sin el artículo, "few" y "little" cambian de matiz a negativo ("poco, casi nada"): "few people came" (vinieron pocos, decepción), "little time" (poco tiempo). En A2 basta con dominar "a few" y "a little".
how much / how many (preguntar cantidad)
"How many + contable plural?": "How many brothers do you have?". "How much + incontable?": "How much money do you need?". Es el mismo criterio contable/incontable.
"How much...?" pregunta también el precio: "How much is it?", "How much are these shoes?".
