Friendly and responsible. You know your neighbor, but you have never discussed noise. They start. About 8 turns · 6 minutes.

Your screen only. Don't show it. Apologize for the actual noise, then protect the part of the gathering that matters.

Tu información

Lo que sabes y lo que necesitas

Where you are

You are at your apartment door during a birthday gathering for your sister. Ten people are inside, and the music is playing from a speaker near the living-room window.

You want

You want the gathering to continue until 11:30 p.m. without another complaint. Your sister asked for music while the cake is served at ten.

You can't

  • End the gathering at 10:00 p.m.; two guests are still travelling from Piedecuesta.
  • Move everyone to another place tonight. Food, decorations and the cake are already here.
  • Promise complete silence while ten people are talking. You can control the speaker and the windows, not every voice.

Only you know

  • The speaker has a bass control, and the bass is currently at its highest level.
  • The back bedroom is empty and has no shared wall with the neighbor’s bedroom. The speaker can move there, but the room is small.
  • You told the guests the gathering would finish before midnight. Nobody expects an all-night party.

If you finish with nothing

Your neighbor may call security, your guests will feel unwelcome, and the next two hours will become a series of knocks at the door instead of a birthday.

Use blocks 1, 3 [receives], 5, 6 and 7 [grants]. An apology opens the repair; it does not decide the final rule.

Closing criterion

Do the sound test before closing. Then both people repeat:

  1. Where the speaker will stay.
  2. The bass and volume setting after 10:00 p.m.
  3. Which window or door stays closed.
  4. The gathering finish time and what happens if the bedroom test still fails.
Success: You apologized without ending the gathering, revealed the bass setting only when useful, and accepted a test from the neighbor’s apartment. The final rule includes speaker place, bass, window and finish time.

Después de hablar

Conversen sobre cómo les fue

  1. ¿Qué diferencia hubo entre pedir “menos ruido” y localizar bajo, ventana y dormitorio?
  2. ¿La carta aumentó el poder del vecino o convirtió el problema en algo compartido? Defiendan una lectura.
  3. Repitan la regla como cuatro ajustes observables. ¿Qué parte no se podría comprobar?
