Members paid a small monthly amount and received a box of produce, while non-members could still buy individual items at the market. The orders helped farmers reduce waste, but some members complained that the boxes contained vegetables they did not know how to cook. The cooperative responded with short recipe cards and monthly demonstrations led by different farmers. It also created a reduced-price membership for households on lower incomes. The new model has not made the cooperative financially secure, yet it has connected planning, education, and access more closely than the original market did. The demonstrations had an unexpected effect, because several members who had first joined only for cheaper vegetables began volunteering at the market and suggesting new suppliers. At the same time, the reduced-price membership raised a difficult question, since a few full-paying members felt that the discount should be funded by the cooperative itself rather than by slightly higher prices for everyone else. The board now wants to measure food waste and member before expanding to another neighbourhood.
