Tu información

Lo que sabes y lo que necesitas

Where you are

It is Tuesday, August 18, 8:20 p.m. You are working at the living room table, laptop open. Dani just got off the phone and walked into the kitchen.

You want

You want the whole morning of Monday the 24th at that table, and you want Dani to sign the lease before September 1.

You can't

  • You can't do the interview in your room. Don't explain why unless they ask. It just sounds like an excuse. You need that table or you lose the call.
  • You can't say no to the visit. You never make the visit the problem, and if you say no, you are the bad guy at breakfast.
  • You can't say all three things at once. One thing per turn, and the lease last. Say it early and it sounds like payment for the visit.

Only you know

  • Dani does not know three things yet: your interview on Monday the 24th, your mom's ticket for Saturday the 29th, and the lease.
  • Dani thinks you work in your room.
  • You have three reasons for the living room, and you don't give them first. You know two things about that window: a weak signal, and, from the bars downstairs, a truck unloading at nine in the morning. If they ask, tell all of it.

If you walk away with nothing

On Monday the 24th Dani has the living room and your video call is gone. Nobody signs before September 1, and you both spend two weeks looking for another apartment.

Closing criterion

Each of you says three things out loud. Six in total. Nobody says the other person's three lines.

Dani's screen · your three: where Iván sleeps on Thursday the 20th, and who sleeps where that night · the second bed, and that nobody pays for it · the message for the aunt, out loud, in front of Cris.

Cris's screen · your three: from what time to what time the living room is yours on Monday the 24th · the lease, and the day it has to carry the two names · what you did not decide today, and when you talk about it — Sunday the 23rd, in the kitchen, after lunch.

Together, once: Cris says yes to the aunt's message, or changes one word in it. If Cris changes one word, the two of you agreed on different things.

Four rules:

  • Your three lines are yours. If the other one says one of them, it doesn't count — say it again yourself.
  • You can check with your own words. So, we're clear then is not one of the six lines, and it isn't cheating either.
  • Saying yes is not a line. Yeah, sure, okay, fine and that works are not lines by themselves — and they don't close the Together either.
  • Nothing goes one way. In the same turn, say what you give and what you get — and the other one says out loud what they give back.

Six lines, or it isn't closed. The easy one to forget is the third one. Skip it and the conversation just stops. It doesn't end.

Success: One at a time, your order, lease last · never a no to the visit, and Monday the 24th, 8:00 to 11:00, yours · the living-room reason only when they asked, and then all of it · you asked an open question about Iván's days · you said what you lose · you never said the problem is them, and breakfast tomorrow still works.

Después de hablar

Conversen sobre cómo les fue

So: he's coming on…, and he's sleeping…, right?".

  • El Primer Condicional en Inglés A2a2

La condición que desbloquea el acuerdo: "If…, I'm OK with it".

I'll finish at eleven".

  • Conectores en Inglés A2: because, so, although, however, buta2

Nadie cierra la puerta y todos ponen lo suyo con el mismo but: "I'm not saying no, but…".

  • Going to en inglés A1a1

What's he going to do all day?".

  • There is / There are en inglés A1a1

La segunda salida de Dani se ofrece con there is, y por eso suena a inventario y no a exigencia: "He can sleep… There's a mattress".

  • Preposiciones de tiempo en inglés A1a1

El reparto se dice con on/at: "He's coming on…", "at nine in the morning".

Dani propone dónde duerme y Cris pide otra salida: "He can sleep…", "Can we do it another way?".
